FREEDOM SHIP The colors in the water Still make elusive shapes Reflecting all the memories Even as time escapes Once I ran with the wild boys Along these crazy banks Breaking every fragile rule Laughing at our pranks I wonder is this river Still magic any more Or were the dreams abandoned On the playground of this shore I remember the hills and the valley floor Three young boys sneaking out the door One September evening late Silent shadows moving out the gate The autumn air was strangely still The sound of feet running up the hill Blue black clouds swept in the night We reached the top and what a sight The moonlit river calling us down The hidden treasure quickly found The blanket lifted with a silent stare At the sacred vessel floating there That raft became our freedom ship When life became a chain Now Ive come from far away To ride that ship again The sky is open wide tonight And full of shining stars The sound of running water Sends a signal to my heart The hills are alive and rolling The grass blows in the wind I can almost hear them calling me Daring me to begin Could it be that fear is worse Than what Im frightened of What a shame to waste a chance To ride the ship I love A sudden croaking bullfrog Takes me by surprise Im laughing as I blink the mist From foggy, distant eyes Im free within this moment From the chains of my routine Washing all the doubts away And starting over clean Running to the rivers call For all the joy it brings To climb on board my freedom ship And ride its magic wings LARGE TEXT AT BOTTOM OF PAGE: |
